The SEMIPRO Coach Pathway

How every coach earns the right to work with a SEMIPRO athlete.

Every coach who works with a SEMIPRO athlete completes a structured apprenticeship under Damian. Three months. Real athlete files. No shortcuts.

We are always on the lookout for great coaches. Applications create the talent map; Damian chooses manually, and the pathway is intentionally difficult to pass.

Difficult by design

This is a filter, not a funnel.

The pathway is meant to feel demanding. Athlete trust is not something SEMIPRO hands over because someone has a certificate, a race result, or a good application.

The right coach should want their work reviewed. They should be willing to compare their decisions against Damian's, line by line, and get better from the gap.

If that sounds uncomfortable but worthwhile, you are probably closer to the kind of coach we want to meet.

The pathway

Four stages. Real files. A standard that never switches off.

Month 1

The apprenticeship

Read & Apply

Damian writes every plan and every piece of athlete feedback. The new coach writes their own version in parallel, then compares against Damian's, line by line. No athlete sees the new coach's work. The job is to learn the voice, the decisions, and the system.

Stage 2

02

Months 2-3

The apprenticeship

Co-pilot

The new coach drafts athlete-facing feedback. Damian reviews everything before it sends. Independence with a safety net.

Stage 3

Month 4 onwards

The apprenticeship

Independent with weekly audit

The coach runs plans, feedback, and athlete communications. Damian reviews every athlete, case by case, in a weekly meeting.

The Standard

Every SEMIPRO coach sits in a weekly review where every athlete is discussed, every week. No coach ever works in isolation, not in their first month, not in their fifth year. As the team grows, reviews rotate between coaches. The standard doesn't drop when a new coach joins. That's the point.

How we select coaches

How we choose who coaches you.

Most coaching companies filter for credentials: racing category, certification level, years in the sport. We don't.

SEMIPRO coaches are selected for the way they think about cycling: a first-principles understanding of physiology and training, deep curiosity about how bodies actually respond, and the empathy and emotional intelligence to coach the person, not just the file.

Riding experience matters. Racing pedigree doesn't. A coach who can reason from physiology beats a coach who can recite a category.

Physiology before folklore
Data read with context
Clear athlete communication
Strong boundaries and humility
Consistency over coach personality
Willingness to be reviewed

Good fit

Who should apply

  • Coaches who can explain the why without drowning athletes in jargon.
  • People who read the rider in front of them, not just the template.
  • Calm communicators who can handle missed sessions, stress, illness, and messy weeks.
  • Coaches who want a system, supervision, and a higher standard than working alone.

Poor fit

Who should not apply

  • Anyone looking for a fast certification badge.
  • Influencer-first coaching with thin athlete follow-through.
  • Coaches who want to run their own method under the SEMIPRO name.
  • People who treat software metrics as decisions instead of evidence.

Coach application

Put yourself on the radar.

This is a signal form, not a hiring promise. It helps SEMIPRO understand who is out there, where they are, what they have coached, and whether the market for a future coach pipeline is real.

If there is a fit, Damian will reach out. If there is no current fit, the application can still help shape the pathway.

Before applying

A few boundaries.

Is this a job application?+

Not in the formal sense. It is a pathway application and talent signal. SEMIPRO may invite selected coaches into a conversation, supervised pathway, or future role.

Do I need formal qualifications?+

They help, but they are not the main filter. Judgement, athlete communication, physiology, humility, and consistency matter more than a certificate by itself.

Can I keep my own coaching business?+

Possibly. That depends on conflicts, capacity, athlete overlap, and whether you can coach under SEMIPRO standards without mixing methods or confusing the athlete experience.

Is this public?+

The page is public so interested coaches can apply organically, but selection remains manual and private.
