On my mindThree phases of potential
As a cycling coach, I've had the privilege of working with riders of all fitness levels over the years. It's fascinating to see how the obstacles they face tend to fall into distinct categories based on their current abilities.
While I've noticed a striking similarity among the cyclists I work with (often around 80%), I acknowledge that my own biases and focus may influence my perspective. I'm keen to hear from readers who have experienced different challenges or have alternative viewpoints!
Most common cycling challenges I encounter during coaching:
Beginner: Building Base Fitness Typical solutions revolve around developing a consistent training routine and gradually increasing endurance.
Intermediate: Improving Speed and Power Typical solutions involve structured interval training, hill repeats, and focus on proper technique.
Advanced: Optimising Performance and Recovery Typical solutions include highly personalised training plans, nutrition optimisation, recovery strategies, and fine-tuning race tactics.
As cyclists progress through these fitness tiers, the challenges they face become more specific and targeted. By identifying common patterns and providing appropriate guidance, coaches can help cyclists overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. However, it's crucial to remember that every cyclist is unique, and there may be individual variations within these general categories.
