What actually matters for performance?
More of the same-and that's a good thing!

Training for cycling can often seem complex and daunting, but as highlighted by Seiler et al., the reality is that there are no secrets.
And while I am not a super fan of blindly following the other people's methods or drawing conclusions from this "qualitative research study" type of article it's reaffirming to see that the information lines up with what I already know to be true about cycling training.
The principles used by elite athletes can be applied at all levels, just in lower quantities. By focusing on quality, controlled intervals, and proper recovery, everyday cyclists can achieve significant improvements in their performance. Be confident in your training approach and get on with the work.
1. Quality Over Intensity
Training quality is crucial and is not synonymous with high intensity. Focus on executing training sessions with excellence to optimise adaptations and performance.
2. Controlled Interval Training
Interval sessions should be controlled. Focus on maintaining good technique and a progressive increase in intensity rather than reaching the point of failure.
3. Importance of Recovery
Adequate recovery is essential for adaptation and performance improvement. Alternate between hard and easy days to manage training stress effectively.
By continuing to apply these principles you are doing everything you can to improve your performance. Remember, the key to success is confidence and consistency in your training. Get on with the work and enjoy the journey.

On my mindGratitude
This week, I've been reminded of how valuable health and freedom are. I injured myself last weekend and have been unable to leave the house—or even walk. While I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself, it's made me appreciate the times when I'm not injured even more. When I make excuses not to do the things I want, or when things get hard, I realise that being able to do them is the greatest gift, and everything else is a bonus.
Right now, I'd love to just go for a walk, let alone a ride. So do me a favour and take a moment to really enjoy your ride today. Appreciate a body that can move you, a mind that can feel joy, and a heart that not only pumps your blood but also lets you feel deeply. Take in everything that you experience and truly appreciate it.
Ridewell,
Damian
