This is easy to add to your recovery routine

The effects of relaxation techniques following acute, high intensity training

2 min readRecovery & sleep

The findings of this one may suggest that athletes engaging in either 15-minute guided mindfulness or rest activities (e.g., sitting) post-training may facilitate parasympathetic nervous system reactivation, potentially accelerating recovery and improving performance.
These short, accessible interventions can be easily incorporated into training routines, showing substantial benefits in heart rate and respiratory rate reduction.

Here are three options for 15-minute guided mindfulness sessions that fit the description:

  1. 15 Minute Body Scan - Guided Meditation: This session guides your attention across different parts of your body to encourage connection and relaxation. Watch it here.
  2. Body Scan with Salva Chak, MPH - 15 Minutes: Led by Salva Chak, this guided body scan aims to help release physical tension and promote relaxation. Watch it here.
  3. Guided Meditation in 15 Minutes: Body Scan: This meditation includes mindfulness practice, grounding, and breathing techniques for stress management. Watch it here.

These sessions involve techniques like breathing exercises and body scans, similar to what was described in the study. They're designed to help relax and calm the mind, which can be especially beneficial after intense physical activity.

On my mindLife Unpacked

By the time you're reading this, I will have just stepped off the plane and into a new country. It will be the fifth country I've lived in in the past 12 years.

The process of leaving one country for another always unravels things I don't like about one place and am looking forward to in the next.

It's also an opportunity to examine my physical things and my thoughts. And while it's true that you take yourself with you when you travel, you also get a chance to reset your daily routines.

Environmental changes can affect your mental state, so I always look for ways to foster relaxation and personal change in my new environment.

So, here's a fun challenge I'm embracing, and I invite you to join me: In the new year, let's take some time to reassess our routines. Let's discover together what truly enriches our lives and what we can let go of.

With a spirit of adaptability and open-mindedness, I'm excited to see how this journey unfolds for both of us. Who knows? We might just find ourselves on an exhilarating path to personal growth and unexpected joy.

Let's embark on this adventure together and see where it leads us!
