What foods improve endurance performance?

Fuel Your Ride with Nature's Powerhouses!

A recent study looked at how certain foods affect endurance performance in sports like cycling. The researchers found that eating foods high in nitrates and polyphenols can slightly improve endurance, helping athletes perform better in time trials, last longer before getting tired, and do better in stop-and-go type exercises.

Key points for cyclists:

  1. Beetroot is the best nitrate-rich food for boosting endurance.
  2. Grapes, cherries, and pomegranates are the best polyphenol-rich foods for improving endurance.
  3. The study didn't find any significant benefits for women or from eating New Zealand blackcurrant.
  4. There's not enough evidence to say whether L-citrulline from watermelon juice helps with endurance.

The bottom line? Eating a variety of nitrate and polyphenol-rich foods might give your cycling performance a small boost, but more research is needed to say for sure. In the meantime, it can't hurt to add some beetroot, grapes, cherries, and pomegranates to your diet and see if they help you on your rides.

On my mindLife Profitability

This idea comes from a book written by Adii Pienaar. In the book it's applied to entrepreneurship but I thought it might work for cycling. Let me know if it resonates?

Are you letting your passion for cycling overshadow what truly matters in life?

Life profitability means taking a holistic view of how cycling fits into your overall well-being and satisfaction. It's not about giving up on your cycling goals, but rather finding a way to integrate them harmoniously with your other responsibilities and aspirations.

Instead of seeing cycling as a trade-off, view it as one piece of the puzzle that makes up a fulfilling life. Invest in your relationships, explore new interests, and pursue your career ambitions alongside your cycling endeavours.

Apply the same drive you have for cycling to optimising your life as a whole. Seek out opportunities to enhance your happiness and sense of purpose, both on and off the bike.

Remember, you can always get on the bike, but you only get one shot at life. Don't wait until it's too late to start prioritising your life profitability.

So, keep your cycling dreams alive, but don't forget to enjoy the scenery along the way. When you look back on your life, you'll be glad you invested in the whole journey, not just the finish line.
